Living the Dream: International Campus

"The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go." - Dr. Seuss

Having learned the lessons of homeschooling during COVID, we knew we needed help with education! We therefore set about trying to design a curriculum that would keep both children up to speed with national education system (in our case the UK), while enabling us to maximise the opportunities afforded us by our sailing adventure.

Our strategy is to minimise the risk against the core subjects of English, Maths and Science by enrolling Findlay and Tillie in a recognised learning provider, with tutors to keep them on-track. We would use AI technology for subjects such as music and languages which, while not mirroring the national curriculum exactly, ensures enough progression for them to keep pace.

We are taking the most risk against conventional education for our children in the subjects like History, Geography and Social and Religious Studies. But for these subjects, our voyage is one epic field trip!

Wolsey Hall

Both Findlay and Tillie are enrolled in Wolsey Hall Oxford for the core subjects of Maths, English and Science. More information on how this works can be found here.

Synthesis

Towards the end of our time in Cyprus, and as part of our research into developing a curriculum for our adventure, we enrolled Tillie in Synthesis Tutor, an AI maths tutor developed at SpaceEx. We watched with amazement as, in the space of a couple of sessions, she went from basic addition, to number placement theory, to Hieroglyphics, to understanding binary code (and she loved it). Over the summer, Findlay and Tillie also attended the Synthesis Teams Summer Camp, aimed at developing problem solving techniques and skills; again, they both loved it. Tillie is continuing with both Synthesis programmes. Findlay was lucky enough to be accepted into Astra Nova...which is also super cool!
